Station No. 1
Amberbridge
The sea is just beyond the fence and the tide sets the mood.
Cliffs of pale stone drop to the water, and the line runs along their very edge. Light is full and even, the kind that shows every fence and every wire.
Amberbridge is a small stop, and the train does not hurry here. Somebody has painted the station name in careful white letters across the fence. The brakes release with a long sigh, and the next stretch of country opens ahead.
Inside, the carriage is quiet: a hum of wheels, a cup rattling in its saucer, and the soft creak of old seats. The journey has no end to reach, only a long run of quiet places like this one.
The Slow Train pulled into Amberbridge at midnight UTC on 1 November 2026, rested at the platform for a minute, and carried on across windy coast. Everyone riding that day looked out of the same window.
