Station No. 5
Ivycombe
Cliffs, grass and a horizon with nothing on it.
Cliffs of pale stone drop to the water, and the line runs along their very edge. A pale morning is spreading over the land, and the lamps on the platform are still lit.
Ivycombe is a small stop, and the train does not hurry here. The footbridge is empty, and a single pigeon inspects the timetable. Then the whistle sounds, once, and the train moves on.
Inside, the carriage is quiet: a hum of wheels, a cup rattling in its saucer, and the soft creak of old seats. Beyond the bend, other landscapes wait their turn, each one a little different from the last.
The Slow Train pulled into Ivycombe at midnight UTC on 5 November 2026, rested at the platform for a minute, and carried on across windy coast. Everyone riding that day looked out of the same window.
